Sailing Around The Bad Cape – Ep. 97 RAN Sailing

Our last stop in the Pearl Islands in Panama is the private island San José. We were the only boat but pelicans and cows kept us company. Next passage was the sail to the border of Panama, Puerto Armuelles, and this one goes around two capes that are infamous for strong winds and riptide.

We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us.

  • Johan, do you have an air horn (like Barry's) on board? I think you would have definitely got that ships' crews attention with one of those AND a flare. 😲

  • Good that you speak Spanish. The Cape or nearby US warning of drug smugglers and to avoid 10 miles from shore. You stated 3 miles near shore. Not sure in meters but too close maybe or not

  • A wonderful bird is the Pelican, his peak holds more than his belly can, he holds enough in his peak to last him a week, I wonder how the hell he can. Stay safe.

  • As much as I enjoy your vlogs, I must say that your experiences in Panama as regarding current costs of transit and clearing in and out, convinced me not to do it again. It was a bucket list item from years ago that I enjoyed. Even with the friendly officials and the locals, I don't think I would now, considering the expense.
