  • I didnt purchase the air commander as I attached the Nissan Di700A directly to my Sony a9, but it's not flashing? Is there a video anywhere that explains who the flash works directly attached to the camera?

  • Hi Gary! I've been a regular to your videos! You're doing a wonderful job. I have a doubt, I currently have a nissin i40 for Sony A7R ii, can I just purchase only a air commander to make i40 fire off camera? Thanks in advance.

  • Mr Fong, I'm using a Di700a and Air 1 Commander on a a6000. I'm trying to use rear curtain sync but I can't seem to make it work or find information on if it's possible. When you chance to flash mode on the a6000 to rear, you loose the Air 1. Any thoughts?

  • Gary Fong, if you have the Air1 unit on camera, and you're shooting in very low light conditions with an A6000 or A7 Mark II, can you use the camera's internal AF assist beam? Thank you!

  • Personally I don't use off camera flash or flash at all for that matter. However it is always useful to have it so instead of paying $200+ i chose to go with cheap triggers and a yongnuo flash. Doesnt compare to this however it functions pretty well and the lights are pretty bright. Good video overall.

  • now the only thing missing is the a li io battery like on the godox flashes, i would never go back to normal batteries …and having to charge 30 batteries bevor a shoot …. a akku pack in a speed light makes life so much easyer and so much sense

Alexander Zettl June 14, 2020 2:03 am Reply
  • The shoe that comes with the flash fits so loose since the Sony show is slightly smaller than Canon and Nikon…it literally wobbles the whole time. I also feel the battery replacement tray will break as it has plastic tabs to hold the battery and thats never good.

When using the flash I was unable to find how to turn the pre-flash off so it goes every time. Any thoughts how to turn that off anyone?

I also found using the a7r with the transmitter you have to go to Flash Settings and put the mode into "wireless" and once you do that you lose the option to rear curtain sync. Anyone find out if you can turn rear curtain back on?

  • The Di700a needing to be facing forward for on-camera HSS is a strange one. Is this also the case for on-camera TTL? The only time I use on-camera flash is to TTL bounce off a ceiling at events.
Can someone confirm that TTL works as normal when the flash is on-camera, facing upwards? Thanks

    crazysvt03 June 14, 2020 2:03 am Reply
  • Hi Gary,

I've been trying to sort out a problem with my recently purchased Di700A/Air Commander for Sony. In both TTL and Manual Wireless mode I'm consistently getting about a quarter-second shutter lag, though there's none with the flash in the hot shoe or connected via TTL cord. There are just a handful of references to others experiencing this which I've been able to find online, and Brian Smith replied in his blog that he hadn't noticed any lag but that it may have something to do with the settings.

Might you have any idea what's going on here? I emailed the US distributor but didn't receive a reply. Unless I can discover a fix I'm afraid I'll have to return the units, as the lag is quite troublesome when shooting live insect macros.

    Thank you!
